Witnessed a car crash on the M2 yesterday!

Yesterday I was driving down the M2 London bound. When just after the Medway Services I saw a car (about 2 cars in front of me) come swerving off the motorway and smashing straight through a boundary fence hitting a tree. I was one of the first to stop straight away alongside the motorway and rushed off to the accident too see if I could be of any assistance.

The car was very badly damaged, the passenger was conscious and got out ok, but was bleeding from the head. He then said there was someone else, the driver, so we started searching for him, eventually he was found over the other side of some barbed wire fence, if the passenger hadn’t been conscious or got out and fainted or something we would have never have known that there was someone else in the car at that time.

The driver was unconscious but had a pulse. Luckily there were a number of us who were first aid trained including a nurse. Emergency services were called and within a short space of time 2 ambulances arrived, 2 fire engines and the police as well as a fly pass by a police helicopter.

The police blocked both side of traffic to stop both people coming down the motorway stretch we were parked on the side and also to stop I believe possible onlookers on the opposite side.

We were then told an Air Ambulance was on the way and told to go back to our cars.

Unfortunately today I found out that the Driver was not so lucky after all, he had suffered serious injuries including skull fractures and had died! 🙁

Thanks for this as we were held on M2 and our camper van overheated and had to call out breakdown and we could see that there had been an accident. I’m really sorry to hear of the person that died in the accident. A Lady lorry driver kindly stopped jamming both lanes (the traffic was slow moving) to get chaps to push our camper van off the actual motorway lane as my husband and I are partially disabled and she could see that we were in danger on the motorway lane. Thanks to that lady in a white lorry and those that helped us. I noticed how selfish some people were using the hard shoulder as an overtaking lane and one chap started shouting at my husband for blocking the hard shoulder saying he had to get his wife to hospital and he wanted to get past. I thought he was going to attack my husband who was desperately trying to think what to do to get us going again. From what I saw there was no emergency but 2 flash cars just wanting to get on as we all did and then literally dangerously zooming past everyone on the hard shoulder to get to the front of the queue which admitted did stretch back miles,. I was terrified of the whole situation as I’m not young. I just can’t get over the selfishness of some drivers but it was heartwarming that the lady lorry driver stopped the traffic and got young chaps to help us to move to the hard shoulder. I wish I’d taken her name and her company to give her a big vote of thanks. Also to the others she roped in to move our big camper. My husband got the camper going again and then we broke down in the service station again, thankfully, as the engine would not start again. Thankfully the AA chap came out just before 12 midnight and got us going again as it was a dirty connector where the water had boiled over in the engine. A thank you to him as well. It was a very hot day and I appreciate people were hot and tired but some of the behaviour of drivers on that motorway shocked me but there were angels out there that came to our rescue so thank you all. Please drivers do not go so fast on the motorway and break the speed limit as it’s there for a reason to help prevent accidents to yourselves and others.
