changingtuna88 reacted in YAMS Discord?
Hey Jake (or should I still call you Tuna? )
Long time no speak. There's always going to be some of us lurking the depths of these forums. I'm always on the look out for any life on here just to say hi.
I've literally only got discord this past week (I'm late to the boat I know ) so trying to learn how it works. Great idea setting up the server btw, I've joined it!

Yeah, but that's the normal risk for going out at night. There's a reason the developers made it easier to get out of boats, carts and such.
You should have seen the great Farmpocalypse last year. So many food animals that you couldn't walk, let alone ride a cart.

Update: After lots of hard work I have got us updated to Minecraft 1.8, so we can now use Minecraft 1.8 items.
I am sorry for the delay, I was relying on plugins and such to update. Its still not perfect, there are some bugs here and there such as spawn tower messages not being formatted correctly but its good enough for now.
Thanks for being patient.
EDIT: Formatting issue fixed.
EDIT 2: I will try and sort out a new mining world at some point when I have time.

changingtuna88 reacted in 02/02/2015 - The Future of YAMS for 2015
Hello everyone,
As I'm hope most of you are aware from The Yams 4th Anniversary post and The Future of YAMS for 2014 post some decisions had to be made as to how to carry on with YAMS if at all due to time, budget and other constraints.
I didn't want to see YAMS end so abruptly without a proper end so after the anniversary post I started thinking of what could be done to have one last go of YAMS. I have came up with some ideas and have proposed these to staff to see who was interested in carrying on as staff in the hope of making these ideas a reality.
I have now had most of the staff reply, I'm still waiting on a few to reply but while I wait (I'd really like to have them on board) work has started already as we are on the clock and also id like to start getting members thoughts!
So here's the current plan, please bear in mind things may change as this isn't final:
We will be switching minecraft hosts, I can no longer justify paying what we do with our current hosts. This will mean the ip address will change, but you should be using play.yams.me as the ip address anyway so you will be able to connect no problem once we switch as I will update it. I will try and get us over to Minecraft 1.8 with all the new blocks. New survival world, items will not transfer over as it would be nice if we all start of as new players, we have had our current 2nd world for some time now so a refresh will do everyone good giving players a chance for a fresh start. Mining world will stay, but will be refreshed, all mining to be done in mining world to prevent players digging into peoples basements or getting in the way of each other. Mining world will of course be refreshed. Test build world will hopefuly be replaced with a creative world. Old YAMS Normal worlds to be available as read only worlds for visits if possible, this will depend on RAM. Nether portal will most likely be more accessible this time, its currently hidden and you have to find it. Access to the end has yet to be decided. PvP will remain off except for certain pvp arena areas, we are a family friendly server we don't need people killing each other all the time. New world will not be as large radius wise, but may expand if needed as at a latter date. The big one.... no sandbox and no towns..... There will be no set theme unlike our current towns but there will be certain building rules. Players will build their houses along the side of the 4 main rails coming out of spawn tower, we will ask you to place your name at the side of the rails and that you build a path to your house and you don't go really far back (players should be able to see your house from the rails). So that's no plots... We are still a community and players should stick together don't try and separate yourselves out massively, be friendly with each other and explain to your neighbours what you plan on doing so you can wok out space between you. Only 1 house per player, but community projects will be allowed. We could maybe have 1 of the rails for community projects, we shall have to think. Small outbuildings such as wells and outside toilet etc around house will most likely be allowed as well as small farms and such. Building rules will include things such as not building offensive structures, not building houses that go very high up, floating houses (includes trying to attach it to the ground with say a 1x1 pillar to try and get round it) There will be good farms in spawn town as everyone should be provided with a good chance to start just as they were in sandbox. No mass claiming of land (i.e fencing massive areas off for future use), take the land you need there and then to build and expand as and when needed. Talk to your neighbours if you think you need space. Evictions could happen to those who don't come back in a long time, so keep active. There will be opportunities for new staff and internal staff promotions. Well these are some of the ideas that I'm thinking of going along with, as I said at the start things could change, nothings final but I need to start somewhere. I'm hoping you agree on what we have planned?
Have anything to say, post below!

Hi Everyone,
It is with great pleasure to meet you all, as the new administrator for YAMS my first steps in bringing our server more in line with other servers out there will be:
Restructure of all staff, all staff to be re-interviewed regarding their position with YAMS, those who do not comply will be demoted. Move over from Bukkit to Spigot to improve on server performance, this will help us handle the amount of changes which could cause server lag. Remove whitelist and unban all previous players to allow them to enjoy our new play style. Increase difficulty to hardcore gamemode, if a player dies they will be banned, at the end of the month the bans will be reset. Open the creative world so we can finally have some freedom. Enable TNT and creeper explosions in the main world. Convert main world water into lava to darken the feel of the server. Make it permanently night. Alter the rules to define ourselves as a Minecraft Anarchy server, with PVP, Griefing and Looting allowed. Setup new domain name and retitle the server name from YAMS to something that reflects our new play style. Long live the dark future of YAMS, I can not wait!

Hello,
I have been thinking long and hard of what to do about the future of YAMS and I have finally decided.
I would like to announce that I am stepping down as the administrator of YAMS and that as part of this process I have invited TheTimeMeddler to become the new Administrator of YAMS.
He is a very good friend and has some good ideas for the future of YAMS so I wish him all of the best in administrating YAMS, I’m sure he will do everything in his power to make the future of the YAMS experience as enjoyable as possible.
I have every bit of faith in him!

changingtuna88 reacted in Happy birthday YAMS!!!
If I have my dates right today marks the 4th birthday of YAMS. (If dates wrong I'm sure it's about this time of year).
Just wanted to say massive thanks to Darren and everyone for all the time and effort put in to yams in that time.
I know this last year has been a quiet one for us, some folks off to university others working more etc but yams will always remain my number 1 server.
Unfortunately I am working tonight and most of the weekend so don't know if able to get online. Might try and get daughter on at some point soon too. She been let loose in single player and seems to have the hang of things now.
Happy mining and stay safe

changingtuna88 reacted in 09/01/2015 - YAMS 4th Year Anniversary
I for one would like to celebrate! I understand many people now are starting to hit busy times what with Christmas, the New Year and now all of the mock exams coming up - but I'm sure if we all got organised we could pull something off! As for planning I'm hopeless! But I wouldn't mind doing a game or two again - I really enjoyed walls, maybe we could even load a few hunger games style maps? I think that would be amazing - we've never done it on the server before, unless there is some giant arena I don't know about tucked away in some far corner of the world !
I never played much for the game itself - more for the community, and that's what's made YAMS so special, so even if this is the last year - let's go out with a bang!
Whatever you decide to do Darren you have my full support - and thank you yourself for making YAMS a reality!

changingtuna88 reacted in 09/01/2015 - YAMS 4th Year Anniversary
Today our beloved YAMS is 4 years old which is great news, we have come so far and there's so much more that could be done!
Unfortunately however I also have sad news as it will more than likely be its last year, last year I asked everyone in The Future of YAMS post for their feedback on how we could progress with the server but feedback wasn't as forthcoming as I had hoped, I was hoping we could really change things, be less restrictive in areas and allow more freedom but I think a lot of people were happy with how things are currently.
From the feedback I decided to make some changes and renew the server for another year with the following conditions:
However a year on and I don't think we have truly celebrated YAMS as it should have been, if anything things have got worse, there's hardly any players on any more and I haven't seen some staff on in over 5 months, it feels like people have given up which makes me very sad as so much love, time, money and effort has been put into YAMS!
I don't currently have anything planned event wise for this anniversary as I'm quite upset about how things have gone, doesn't help that the last few events I have done not many people have turned up if at all.
But if you would like to celebrate YAMS, please go ahead and celebrate, it would make me very happy!
We have all made friends here and had some great times with some of us even having the chance to meet in person, all the good that has come from YAMS should not be forgotten.
Remember YAMS always, because while it is "Yet Another Minecraft Server" it isn't just any old server, it is a family friendly community that brought joy to many peoples hearts.
Also Id like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has supported me personally or YAMS, from donations to helping me with feedback, it's all been appreciated.
Thank you everyone.

changingtuna88 reacted in Doctor Who's twelfth Doctor
I'm loving him. It's been a VERY long time since we had a Doctor who was a complete grouch, and the way he interacts with everyone - especially Clara - is a blast to watch. Capaldi's a great actor too, every time the Doctor's on screen he's full of energy and activity.
My favorite line from him is still from Into the Dalek: "She's my carer. She cares so I don't have to." Either that or Flatline's "Can you just give me a moment to enjoy NOT knowing something? It happens so rarely."

changingtuna88 reacted in 28/09/2014 - YAMS Halloween 2014
Halloween is on its way, shops and supermarkets are already starting to stock Halloween things!
But what about YAMS? What are we doing? If anything?
We have done some fun stuff for Halloween in the past, see posts:
13/10/2011 - YAMS Halloween 2011 01/10/2012 - YAMS Halloween 2012 04/11/2012 - YAMS Halloween themed area 02/10/2013 - YAMS Halloween 2013 09/11/2013 - YAMS Halloween Mansion Hosts Infected 09/11/2013 - The Ender Dragon Statue
What do you want to do this time? Some ideas to get you started:
Expand the current halloween (/warp spooky) - I have fixed the 3x3 door, seems all pistons stopped working in the Halloween area, spoooooky... Build a new ride. Build some new statues New themed area inside the Halloween area, like the nether section. Use the ender dragon for something, though it's in a completely different location so a teleport to and from inside would probably be needed. A Halloween world An adventure world - there's plenty out there on sites such as planet minecraft. An mini game map. Halloween related plugins. The return of fang... That should get you started, please start discussing!

changingtuna88 reacted in The Future of YAMS for 2014 [FEEDBACK]
Apologies as I too have been absent recently! But that's not out of choice - right now I'm too bogged down with revision to be able to get much of a chance to get on!
YAMS is truly amazing - across my short time playing minecraft I've never come across a server that runs so well and has people who truly care both about the server and one another. Before I found YAMS I'd been jumping from IP to IP to try and find somewhere worthwhile where I could settle down, and a little over a year ago I found it It's now the only place I bother to connect to!
I really do appreciate the work you do here Darren - as well as all of the other moderators and staff who've been here long before me - without you YAMS would be nothing. I feel at the moment because it's exam season and many of our players are entering uni or adjusting to work levels we are experiencing a little stagnation here and there - but that's to be expected!
I can hardly fault YAMS as a system - I believe we offer great building challenges and events, we have a good community and an admin to match I think where we are suffering at the moment is a lack of new players or connectivity - as I said above. I've mentioned this before but I do think we should look into setting up an official youtube account - not to be updated daily or even weekly - just to showcase events and things if anyone's recorded them - people will come! I know had I run into a youtube account showcasing just some of the things that happen here I would've scrawled down the IP and run to my laptop The only other thing I can think of is twitter - although I'm sure how useful that is as a medium at the moment!
I think I'll start piecing together something longer to post here - but for the moment I think I'll have to go back to looking at enzymes and polymers and all that fun stuff :')
Anyways - just in case you haven't read it enough - this place is amazing and it really is unique - we're all here to support you and you shouldn't have to feel so stressed - we're here to talk if you need it!
Long live YAMS
