darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted February 17, 2012 Welcome to Snowheim, A quite peaceful town situated in the frozen north of YAMS. Snowheim boasts beautiful views of a snow covered forest. With cobblestone houses with a dark wooden trim, do you feel that you could make this your home? While above the ground may be quite underneath is another story. Each home will be connected to the Underpath, an underground tunnel system connecting every home in Snowheim. Connected to this pathway you will find all the public farms and buildings of Snowheim.Town buildings and attractions include: The Library Biggest farms in YAMS Ice rink Lake near future castle grounds. The cobblestone tree. Town plot regulations: Materials for main outside walls: All types of cobblestone materials. Small amounts of mossy cobblestone for detail. Dark spruce logs for detail such as corners / rims. Materials for main outside roof: Oak plank stairs and slabs Cobblestone stairs and slabs. Dark spruce logs as extra detail. Materials for other outside areas within plot area: All types of glass for windows. All types of fences, iron bars, walls for balcony rails. Small amount of other materials for outside furniture such as lampposts, glowstone. seats, tables etc Dimensions and plot sizes: Your plot size is 14x14 this includes your house walls. Do not build on or over the imaginary plot border marked in the 4 corners by fences and redstone lamps. You must only have 2 levels above ground to your house. You may have a pointy roof with an attic inside. Basements are allowed, you will be encased in bedrock. Exceptions to going over plot line by 1 block only: Slopped roof overhang using stairs or slabs. One high row of leaves as a shrub around the house base. Flowers + pots, ferns, vines, tall grass and bushes. Signs, torches and trap doors flush against your wall. Small window boxes at 4 or more blocks above ground. If not sure just ask! Don't forget we have /modreq Eviction / House removal due to inactivity: If you are going to be inactive please tell us for how long by posting in the forums or leaving signs at house. If you are inactive for months, don't take part in the community, break town rules or even just login and out to try and reset your inactive period we may remove your house and you will have to start back in sandbox! :( If you would like to use any other material not specified here you must contact the staff member in charge of this town to have it reviewed. We ask the above so all houses fit in nicely with the town style. When asking for sandbox approval you do not need to specify which part of the town you want to live in, only the main town name. When you are approved please move into the first available plot next to someone instead of going out of the way.Staff member in charge: Nikki_Nutta
madrad 362 Report post Posted February 21, 2012 Hello fellow residents of Snowheim I thought that I should give a quick update on what has been happening around town. As you all know we currently lack farms. Well starting last night ground was broken on the site of the new public farms. Currently two rooms have been dug out for our farms. On the Underpath level we have a 20*20 hub/community room that is set to be a nice place to meet up. Around this will be the Horseshoe, a 'U' shaped room surrounding the hub which currently is set to hold a small market. The next level down was unanimously voted as the wheat farm. This morning designs were proposed and a simple design has been developed that will enable the auto harvesting of a row of 15 at a time. We do have a couple of questions though that will need to be decided by the community. 1. What should the design be for the walls in the hub? - If you have a suggestion for this take a small section in the hub and build your design we can then vote on which to use. 2. What material (along with Glowstone) should be used for the ceiling? - This is a little urgent as certain parts of the build cannot be completed without knowing 3. What material should be used for the walls of the farm? Should it be a single mat or a design? - Post your ideas here If you have any ideas for Snowheim post them here or on the suggestions board in the welcome centre. ---MadRAD---
Kelson 21 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 3. What material should be used for the walls of the farm? Should it be a single mat or a design? I'd like a simple pattern not anything too fancy, and I don't really just want to see a cobble wall.
Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 we do need to add more glowstone to the wall though mobs are spawning in there... and did we want to decorate the mushroom farm or no? also mushroom farm behind the wheat farm? don't think we need a whole floor dedicated to just shrooms lol
Shippinu 27 Report post Posted February 22, 2012 In regards to all questions, I kinda like the idea of a mine. Cobble, logs (pine, I would imagine), wood... For the ceiling, maybe rafters- logs a block or two below the stone/cobble ceiling with glowstone nestled among it. The walls of the farms, maybe a cobble/wood/log mix. Create visual intersest without being crazy In regards to the mushroom farms... maybe put the cactus, mushrooms and pumpkins on the same floor. I really don't see anyone needing a 40x40 room of pain ._.
Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 23, 2012 What can we do when your away rob? could we clear out more rooms for the future farms? maybe mark out where new levels will go? Need us to build anything? Do a Barrel Roll? Collection of items? blocks? More pistons?
madrad 362 Report post Posted February 23, 2012 Yes do a barrel roll... Seriously though on the list of things to do is:

Collect

pistons
redstone
stone bricks
a couple of each seed/material to be farmed

digging the horseshoe, if for the moment we keep 2 between the hub and horseshoe and only make this 5 wide and 5 high on all 3 sides of the hub
you could start digging out the next level it will need to start 3 under the wheat level and be 4 high, and 40*40 to start with
in the mushroom farm behind the wheat farm

make the room 10 wide to start with
cover the floor with dirt
finish the walls

in the wheat farm

create a couple more rows of wheat in the back row (not next to the ladders)

Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 24, 2012 m kay so the first official farm of snowheim is finished! now the 2nd farm area is cleared and ready to convert in to a ??? farm
Kelson 21 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 I vote we do a melon farm below the wheat.
Shippinu 27 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 With kel on the melon farm. Two most useful foods right at top seems logical. Also, I have pistons and a bunch of slimes to donate!
Calisurf 10 Report post Posted February 25, 2012 Just a heads up if you haven't dug the shroom farms yet. Redstone lanterns are going to make shroom farming a lot easier. Make sure to leave extra roof space to install them.
Kelson 21 Report post Posted February 27, 2012 Hey, now that we have a good start on our farms, do you think that we could start a little on the hub at the top?
Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 27, 2012
Hey, now that we have a good start on our farms, do you think that we could start a little on the hub at the top?
i agree and along with that what wall design are we going to use? we should also figure out the size and what is going to be in our "under market" area as well
Shippinu 27 Report post Posted February 27, 2012 Yay hub! I was thinking though...are we going to have an underground animal farm? If so, I was thinking of having it branch off the hub. Maybe one side cows and chickens, the other side of the hub having sheep and pigs? If it was hub-level, we could also have a glass roof so the poor things don't get anemic :<
Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 sugar cane and cactus farm is now done as well up next hub or tree farm?
madrad 362 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 @shippi - Can do but maybe not directly off the hub... @mur - Cool ,,, I would say tree but we could finish the hub
Murasna 39 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 I personally vote tree as well thoughts? Thinking we make it wider then what we have been doing though...
madrad 362 Report post Posted February 29, 2012 One thing we have been forgetting is the gift bestowed upon us by DarrenStraight Designs Ltd and where to place it. If you dont know of it there is a cobblestone generator currently residing outside my Snowheim home. It will be moved into the farms at somepoint
Murasna 39 Report post Posted March 1, 2012 Dale and myself have cleared out a 50x50 area 2 high as a border so all you guys have to do is clear it out 6 high and we will have a tree farm!
madrad 362 Report post Posted March 1, 2012 Mind getting the roof done aswell Also Ive had some ideas on the mushroom farm that could be better
Kelson 21 Report post Posted March 2, 2012 So, just an observation. I went down the ladders to all the farms, landed in the future tree farm, and noticed that a giant slime had spawned. So maybe we could build off to the side or something, and make another slime farm? Yay slime chunks!!!
