We have been relying heavily on whitelist for the past few months because of all the updates and because it helps us have a more structured community by having them sign up to the forums. However by doing this we are limiting the amount of players we get through our doors... every day I see players try and join the server and get refused, we are in top 1-5 of various Minecraft Searches.
So why not just take whitelist off and try and get them to sign up to the forums? Well it’s the amount of people with authority we have on the server; we still have various time zones in which no member of staff is on! We have of course various protections in place but I like for new players to be shown around and explained everything when they join. Of course this can be done by regular members if no member of staff is on but this doesn’t always happen or happens badly as they are missing the required training or don’t fully understand the rules themselves.
Yesterday whitelist was of for most of the day. Iit got pretty busy with at least 16 new players joining, however not all of them were good and when I woke up I found out we had been griefed, luckily it had already been taken care of but still if we had more staff during them time zones it wouldn’t have happened. You try and be nice by allowing people to come on your server and they treat your server like that – it’s nice for anyone. Safe to say they are now globally banned.
So this has promoted me to recruit more staff so we can have whitelist off more often!
Here's a little information about what a Community Support Officer job entails:
1. Greet new players.
If you love to meet new people, you are proud to show them around this great server, help them find resources, give building ideas, or just chat them up for company then you already have the most important skills.
2. Reinforce Server Rules.
Are you familiar with the server rules posted in Spawn Tower? Do you encourage players to read or re-read them when they don't seem to know/remember how to behave? Would you feel comfortable muting players who can't seem to control what their fingers type in public chat? Can you handle the pressure of putting someone in jail when they get caught breaking the rules? Are you willing to investigate the reason behind the behavior and give them a second chance? Do you set a good example for others by just being you?
3. Report bannable offences to Mods/Admins.
Occasionally there are times on the server when all the Mods/Admins are offline for a moment. As a CSO, it is important to document griefing by taking screenshots of the damage or the playerlist of people online at the time. Do you mind taking a little personal time to contain/clean up griefed areas? Do you feel comfortable posting in the forums, something along the lines of “I saw so-and-so do such-and-such today and here are some screenshots of the damage along with locations."
4. Enjoy knowing that you are part of the reason YAMS is the best place to spend your Minecraft time!
Think about what you like most about YAMS and how to keep it being a place you visit to get a good dose of community spirit. We have such diversity here with people from many ages, interests, and countries. We might each have differences but the best thing about all of us is that we have so much in common. We just have to get to know each other to find out what those common interests are and to introduce new ideas to share. That's what community is about, so if you would like to support the YAMS community, apply to be a trainee CSO.
5. Acceptable to job role change.
Understand that from time to time you job role may change and you may be asked to help out on other things that are totally unrelated to what you normally do but that give a benefit towards the community. You may also get the opportunity to be in charge of a public building or specific Job.
To apply, you must be registered on the forums in order to reply to this post. Please give a brief summary of why you think you would be right for the job. Take a moment to look back over previous applications (here and here and older one here) if you need ideas of what to say but be original and bare in mind that a lots changed since them applications. We want to know which assets you will bring to the staff team. Why you and not that other person?
Closing Date: 1 week from date/time of post.
Amount of positions available: undisclosed.

I think I have done some good things for the server over my time there I think I have given steer a good amount of help in Perivale's development, and have helped out a few people there Yesterday I took cool_cool92 through the spawn tower rules and down through sanbox, supplying him a lot. Lastly, I got a substantial amount of evidence of yesterday's events, posting to the forums.Im sure everyone online yesterday would have banned the two responsible, as unfortunately the CSO/Mod that was online at the time was AFK (kinda ironic that he was there but wasnt seeing it happen right? )
Hope Im good for the role, but I hope you choose someone who can do the job best Good luck everybody.

**I live in the pacific/mountain time zones in the US, so I will be on when many CSOs/moderators/admins cannot be on because of the huge time difference.
Good luck to everybody else running for the position of CSO.
Ps. I will be gone from Monday, April 9 to Sunday, April 15 and cant play on YAMS because I'm going on vacation for spring break, so I would be grateful if I could know results when I come back on Sunday. Thanks!

I really would appriciate if I could become a cso, my reason are below!
1. I love helping anyone on yams that is in my abblity, I often ask if anyone needs help.
2. I am to be trusted, I never grief or steal, if I make a mistake I don't mean it and I would never do something bad on purpose.
3. I would love to help build the community of yams even more
4.I would be able to inforce all the rules and make sure no one breaks them so yams is a happier and safer place.
5. I love helping new begginers and loving giving tours which I had the pleasure of doing a few days ago because no one else was able to and I would love to do it more often
6. I have told many of my minecrafting player friends about yams and tried to get them on with sucess.
7. I know yams quite well because I have been on for a long time now and I have seen people been appointed to become cso and mods and I think I would love to step up as a cso.
Those are my reasons and Darren plz consider me as a cso because I really want to be one and I think I would do a fantastic job. I understand if you don't choose me.
Thanks for everything you have done for the server Darren!

I Think I would be a great CSO because, I love new players and I would love to show them around and help them, Also I would like to encourage players to read the rules and obey them. I would report bannable offences to keep the server a happy place . I would love to help every one, as i love to help, and i love minecraft, it's awesome! I love to try new things so Number 5. would be a great opportunity! I have also been on for about 2/3 months but I haven't been able to get on so I am not sure this will change any thing. I always ask if any one needs help and if they do, I do so as they request. Also I love to go mining and go to the nether with others to have fun together! I know I have been a bit bad but I promise I will change I am changing starting this morning. Also I love the park in spawn its so fun but nobody ever normally goes to the park so I will encourage them, as I have ask kylem to come and play and we did! I may not get to be a CSO, but I give all the luck to other's trying to become a CSO.
Good luck every one may the best be chosen!
Over all I would really lke to be a CSO,

I heard about the CSO apps and figured I'd give it a shot for the following reasons:
- I love helping people. If anyone ever needs any help, I'm always willing to step in and help them out with whatever it might be they need, be it building, mining, anything.
- I play minecraft probably far more than I should so I'm on alot so I can be the 'omnipresent' so to speak.
- I'm very responsible. After being in charge of several groups both in real life and in game, I know when to draw the line when people are testing the water a bit too much and I would have absolutely no issues with reporting problems.
- I know the rules pretty well. After having been on YAMS for almost 6 months, I am quite confident on what the rules are and, similar to the last point, I would have absolutely no problems enforcing them.
- I can be a good laugh and have a joke but I know when enough's enough and I am mature enough to respond appropriately in those situations.
- I would like to think that people on YAMS trust me and that they could come to me if they had any problems.
- Most of all, I'm applying because I think I've had sufficient experience on other servers, having run my own for a few months now, and I think that I'd certainly be able to have a good crack at it.

I would like to apply for the position of CSO. I'm eighteen years old and have had experience with leadership. I'm the president of the Youth Group in the church that I attend and have attended two leadership retreats with my school. I like to help out and am sociable and act kindly towards those I have newly met on YAMS. I will certainly exhibit the same qualities to new players. I know that I'm fairly new to the server but I have taken the time to read all of the rules and explore all of the developed and most of the undeveloped area of YAMS. I'm familiar with all rules to the server in general as well as the mining world, sandbox, and towns. I know the locations of all of the towns and attractions that are near spawn tower. I enjoy helping out and would love to give new players a welcoming experience similar to the one I received upon entering the server. I'm capable of giving tours. I regularly think about all the hard work and effort put in by the YAMS team of staff and how well it pays off. I would be an excellent candidate for the position of CSO because I would take pride in the fact that I'd be apart of the team that has done such an admirable job so far.
I live on the east coast so I'm five hours behind the UK time. I don't know where YAMS staffing is situated so I don't know if that will be much help but I thought I'd include it anyway.
Thank you for considering me for this position,

I think I would be good for the job of a CSO for many reasons. One I like to talk to people and get to know them. Two I love to help the community and people out if they need help. Three I have good integrity, I never stolen form anyone or griefed. And last I love YAMS alot and i would like to be bigger part of it.

My name is Nathan Gutierrez, im 13, live in California and if you have seen me around YAMS, then im sure you know i'm a nice person who loves to have fun and help others! I live on the West Coast so im about 9 hours behind the UK in fast reference I am in a program at my school....and what it is is a program about comapssion, kindness and making everyone feel welcome! The acronym is WEB-Were Everybody Belongs and this means exactly what it says! I try to make my fellow members feel welcome and nice... while still making sure we are in order. A bit about my YAMS life is that i have been around for a good 4-5 months. I have never been banned from ANY server (nor jailed ). I havent stole/griefed anything in my minecraftian life so i have respect ALWAYS for my peers. I Extremely appreciate your time that you toom to put the server together because this is what minecraft's about. Friends...and Building! You have made me feel so welcome and I belive I can do that dor others as a CSO
Again thank you fot your time

I've read the information and think that it would be an interesting position for me to take.
Thanks for considering my post.
We do have a lot in common.
The same earth, the same air, the same sky.
Maybe if we started looking at what's the same instead of always looking at what's different,
...well who knows?
