Big Build Project #1 - University of YAMS [OFFICIAL]

Recommended Posts

Citizens of YAMS

Our world is seriously lacking in educational institutions of any sort. The world contains no Schools or Colleges. So the YAMS Government have commissioned the building of the University of YAMS an institution where all can come to learn about all things Minecraft.

The university will be made up of several colleges each specialising in a different subject area. Our current proposed colleges include:
- College of Foundation Studies
- College of Construction
- College of Farming and Agriculture
- College of Interior Design
- College of Applied Redstone
- YAMS College

Each college will be housed in its own building with two - three floors above ground and other floors below. Within this centre of learning you will be able to complete courses and earn various qualifications.

As well as the colleges there will need to be some other amenities to help with University life, such as:
- Library
- Sports Facilities
- Medical Centre
- Student Housing
- Cafe
- Restaurant
- Pub

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So this will be the first of YAMS Big Build Projects.

The ground will be broken on 28th July 2012 and unlike the Build Challenges this project will have no fixed end date. It will be located somewhere in YAMS.

So as everyone should know before we start we will need some resource gathering and some idea planning. We will need designs for each of the colleges as well as the amenities not to mention planning courses.

Also if you have any other ideas for extra colleges or amenities post them.
(an example of 3 universities can be found here http://www.medway.ac.uk/, http://www.ox.ac.uk/, http://www.cam.ac.uk/)

Hi all

I was just wondering if anyone has any further ideas for this. For instance what should be the order of building?

Personally I feel that the first thing that would need building (after cleaning the area) would be an administration building. (with reception, an administration office and the Chancelors ( :) ) office. Not to mention a couple meeting rooms for the govenors and the deans)

Also has anyone thought of a good material to build the college out of? should there be a common look / feel to the colleges or should they each have their own look and feel to them?

Also we need to think of what each of the colleges will be teaching as this will be a place for members new and old to learn both the old and new of Minecraft.
For instance with the colleges I suggested in my first post I was thinking:
- YAMS College would teach the history of YAMS, The rules...
- The College of Foundation Learning would show every type of block and item available and how they can be used... (basically Newbie College)
- The College of Agriculture and Farming would teach members how to setup effective and efficiant farms, all that can be grown....
- The College of Redstone ... I have ideas on what to put in here. :D

Also for the mascot Bacon the Pig sounds like a good mascot :)

I would say Spawn Town then, though Tyler said it first :P I remember seeing people's names on buildings when we revisted the older versions for YAMS 1st anniversary.
