The reason we can’t move over to Minecraft 1.3.x straight away is for the simple fact that we have to wait until Bukkit / CraftBukkit and various plugins have updated themselves to the latest version of Minecraft, without these plugins we could not guarantee the smooth running of YAMS. Statement from Bukkit concerning Minecraft 1.3 can be found at this link.
We have in the past sometimes run castaway world, in which we go pure vanilla with a new world, this means no plugins at all and anything like that. However this time round with so many projects on the go within YAMS we will not being doing this.
So I suggest you do not update to Minecraft 1.3. However should you wish to go and play 1.3.x without us then please make a copy of your bin folder or the minecraft.jar file so you can come back and play on YAMS if you get bored!
It is important you do this before you update if you wish to come back to us before we update.
Bin folder located at the following locations ( “~” = username):
Windows 2000, XP, and Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\~\Application Data\.minecraft
Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 and R2: C:\Users\~\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft
Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft
You can also find this location by going to Texture Packs (on the main menu) -> Open Texture pack folder -> Then going up a level till you see the bin folder. Or for example on windows you could type in your explorer bar %appdata%/.minecraft
If you forget to do take a copy of you bin file etc, you will need to use a program like McNostalgia to come back, however bear in mind this takes a while to update.
As always I will keep you updated on the latest news of updating, if you have any concerns relating to YAMS and 1.3.x please feel free to ask in here and I'm sure someone will be able to answer you. Though some questions we wont know the answer too till it happens!
Darren and the rest of the YAMS Staff.

No @CraftBukkit RB tonight (not even a first RB). We'll try and get a dev build out so people can help us test. #Bukkit
So basically we keep waiting, that's all we can do!

I have to go out soon, but rest assured when I come back I shale do some testing to see if any of our current plugins still work with this dev build and how many are broken (have to wait for plugin devs to fix), I normally wait for stable recommended builds however I have in the past put YAMS onto dev builds and all has gone well, though this one is a first release so I will probaly wait a bit while most of the bugs are discovered and fixed.

Also it's not just bukkit we have to wait for but also plugins, testing reveals that many of the plugins we use including our banning system would be broken if we were to move over now.
I can't have a half working server so instead I've made the decision if waiting. To those of you who can't get on I suggest you take a look at the forums as there's lots of discussions that need replying too and you could even play in single player and post designs of things.
As I said above I'll update you all when I know more.

- We're working hard on getting a CraftBukkit RB out ASAP. Even when I was supporting QubeTubers, we were working. No ETA still, sorry.
- Reminder: first CraftBukkit RB is just a more polished dev build promoted so people who can only update to RBs can try out the build.
- Though a lot more testing has gone into getting this RB than we usually do for the first @CraftBukkit RB after a #Minecraft update.
Sorry it's taking so long, it really is out of my hands and I don’t feel moving over to a dev build is a good idea for the time being, my priority is keeping YAMS safe and Secure.

I am zmoo's dad (zmoo is one of your players). He was prompted by minecraft to update to 1.3.1 and he clicked yes. After accepting the update he could not get on to yams. I have now gone into you forum and see you have a bunch of warnings about the upgrade. He did not save any files before doing the upgrade. Does this mean we have to do something for him to be able to come back and play on your yams server? Thank you.

unfortunately without the un-updated .bin file there's nothing you can do until the server upgrades. but don't worry, we are aware that many players will have updated and cant get on. zmoo might have to play in single player for a while, but as soon as we can update, we will- its out of our hands at the moment.
- zmoo likes this
when it gets mucky I feel disgrace.
Do you like Horlicks, do you like chips?
I've got a hundred pairs of lips!

A new CraftBukkit Recommended Build (1.3.1-R1.0) that provides Minecraft 1.3.1 compatibility is now available.
Important information about this first Recommended Build following a Minecraft update:
The first Recommended Build, as always, is a slightly more polished development build that we're promoting to a Recommended Build so that people who rely on a Recommended Build being available can try out our development builds and decide if they want to use them.
Will plugins break with this build?
Provided the developers of the plugins you are using are keeping up with the development of Bukkit, all your plugins should work fine.
I will do plugin testing this evening when I get home but I know for a fact there's a few plugins we need that are not currently working. I will try and find alternatives if they do not update. Just please dont be holding your breath for an update tonight, I have lots of other stuff to do too not to mention I cant really update if things dont work.

what are plugins? i have always heard of them but i have never known what they are or do exactly..
Plugins are basically add-ons to the game, giving us extra features, for example:
- Preventing griefing
- using /home and /spawn
- Portals to other worlds, like the mining world.

First I want to do a full backup of everything, this can take a while.
UPDATE 19:03: Ok first section of backing up done, just backing up player files this takes a bit longer but I want to be safe!
UPDATE 19:10: Backups done, and interetsing I just found a java.core file that was 2.5GB + *Deleted now*.
UPDATE 19:17: Uploading new files now.
UPDATE 19:23: Ok says 20 minutes to upload at least then I have to check all config files and test, we dont want fires spreading or anything like that, has happened before!
UPDATE 19:42: Fire spread and some other protections working, however some things caught fire before the protection kicked in (always happens when youre moving over) so I'll restore to the backup I did and check everything ok.
UPDATE 19:43: Fire has not burnt anything good good, ok time to test the rest of plugins.
UPDATE 19:52: Juct checkign world generation as we use a plugin to handle our worlds, I want to make sure you can get the new stuff, give me a min to check for emeralds!
