Captain_Marbles 249 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 Just found this on the BBC website! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-19520294 Basically, broadband providers can install broadband infrastructure without applying to town councils for planning permission, which means faster broadband speeds across the whole of the UK! This is really great, as broadband in the UK has always been a little sluggish, especially where I live in the North West. What do you lot think about this? Good news? Not bothered? darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 Sounds good... though it says "The government said that English councils would only retain the right to object if plans affected a site of special scientific interest." what about other sites? Natural areas? Parks? etc. I'm asuming there would also be some restictions on how many could be in one place too and that they couldnt just line say the middle of the high street with them and add more advertising to them too! >.<
ryanfenton 192 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 This is great news and hopefully will help alot of people. I do know that Virgin Media have already been doubling broadband speeds in areas around the uk. Luckily, I live in one of those areas.

Crispy BartyJnr Barras 227 Report post Posted September 7, 2012 Virgin Media are a bunch of pillocks up here. They laid my cable across the ground rather then under it then hid it with some gravel >_< To make matters worse, when calling them out to fix the fact that my internet was dead, they did exactly the same thing again then yelled at me because my naibour had cut through it while fixing his garden O_o Turns out, not only had they illegally laid my cable, they'd also illegally laid it in my NEIGHBOURS front garden >_< So yeah, not gonna really hold my breath on any of this doing any good for me. As long as my internet works, I'm find with it.
kinda same for me as Barty.... am with virgin media, also put my cable over the ground.... think it is in the groove left between two stone slabs on drive way. my internet is often doing the hokey cokey - now starting to think that is the snails crossing over the cables.
