Hello All,

I would like to get more tips added to the public tips that are announched in game, they were orginally a diffrent colour to server broadcasts however the colour wasnt very good so I changed it to the same colour as broadcasts and that looked good but sometimes the main server broadcasts (eg. announcing an event) gets missed so I'm going to try and come up with two diffrent colours again on the limited ammount of colours we have... anyway as I was saying we are looking to include more tips, here's some of the ones we have now:

- 'Remember before asking a question. Think do I really need to ask.'
- 'Use your common sense. Somethings dont need to be mentioned on the rules. Its common sense.'
- 'Darren (Admin) is a very busy person. Hes happy for you to enjoy the server but please dont pester him all the time'
- 'Before asking Darren (Admin) a question have a think can I ask a Moderator or CSO instead'
- 'CSO stands for Community Support Officer. They are there to help new players on the server'
- 'If you fail to abide by the rules we will Warn/Jail/Ban you depending on the circumstances.'
- 'Use /help to display a list of commands you have access to.'
- 'Remember theres a ton of information in spawn tower. Your questions may be answerd there already.'
- 'Moderators are EightBitBen, JBryant, SpiderZombie and Madrad'
- 'Senior Community Support Officers are 666darius666 and DeathLinaty'
- 'Standard Community Support Officers are hayduk8, jonieye, legg, dalejr88, blooba96, leetmurdoc and ColorMeLove'
- 'YAMS Forums located at www.darrenstraight.com/minecraft'
- 'Sandbox is not a town, remember after 3 days your house will be removed if it has not been approved or time extenstion given'
- 'Sandbox is normally for new players only as we have limited space'
- 'Remember when Darren approves a build area, he only approves for you to build in that specific area'
- 'Dont just build square tall wooden plank houses, they wont get Darrens approval, use a mix of materials.'
- 'Dont ask not even as a joke, how do you become a admin/mod/cso.'
- 'People work hard to gather resources, no spawning items here.'
- 'Dont ask for teleports, it wont happen, use the 3 Rs (roads, railways and rivers)'
- 'Why not join us on Mumble Voice Chat - www.darrenstraight.com/minecraft.php'

Here's a couple of ideas.

Maybe something about not building purely out of cobblestone.
"Cobblestone is fine for detail but don't build your house out of it"

Some thing about updates
"We only run stable Bukkit builds, as a result the server may take some time to upgrade to the latest version of Minecraft"

Could do with a list of some of the public warps (also maybe some of the new towns could get warps to their town centres? I still have no idea where Creeper Swamp is!)

Could we please have one asking people not to use text speak? I really hate it :S

Finally you could allow people to advertise their businesses, for example:
"Need bread? Speak to Grindboy" or "Every color under the sun at Colormelove's wool emporium"

Your CSO one needs to have blooba96 changed to elitetyler now.

I have mixed feelings on these tips being broadcast. It is good info and I'm sure does help some people as I remember when I joined the server I read the tips that Server gave. But honestly I tune them out at this point. Maybe it will be better with the new color change.

Personally i would sugges re-adding "Do not ask for teleports, it wont happen".... i know its already there but maybe getting it to come up twice in the cycle? Reason being sooooo many people still ask for teleports, i can only suggest that they either dont see it as so many come up or they just choose to ignore it, maybe with it appearing more often they wont ask?

This is the second time I've implemented this system, it does have it's use and I don't expect regular users to notice them all... its mainly for new players as we end up repeating ourselves over and over so many times it became time consuming not that I dont mind helping people - I love it! But when you have just told someone something then a couple of minutes latter you get asked the same thing that is kind of irratating!

I think one problem is not everyone reads what is said in chat... yes sometimes its hard to keep an eye on everything, you could litterally sit down and not do anything else except get caught up in chat convos >.<

I think a lot of us are split on whats the best way forward with these tips.... same happened last time it was implemented and then when I got rid of it I had people saying you should have tips... now they are back you get some people saying not sure on tips... It's a no win no win situation!

As I said if you are a CSO/Mod etc then it doesnt matter if you tune out to tips I would hope you would all know the stuff on there but we need to be clear that tips DOES NOT IGUAL broadcasts... and thats where it can be confusing... I cant change the broadcast colours only tips.

Its good to have everyone with diffefent opionions. If we all agreed there would be no point in me asking, so thanks for comments so far!

But come on non staff members we want to hear from you your thoughts... they are for you after all! :-)

I like how some of them say {News} and some say {Top Tips}. Are they set to different schedules or does it just pick something to send every 10 minutes?

I think they are helping too, it does seem that some of the more common questions aren't getting asked as frequently.

Can we add a tip about playing tag to the list? Maybe then it will get played more, and also I it kinda reinforces that we do want people to have fun while playing by the rules.

i say we have at least one tip be something along the lines of this;

"griefing will not get you anywhere, our vigilant staff WILL know if you steal, destroy, or place blocks where your not supposed to."



or possibly a kind of friendly reminder,

"dont worry, be happy!"

Maybe its an idea to add "There are hidden warps all over YAMS, if you look carefully you might find some!"
i know we only have 1 hidden public warp atm, but maybe its an idea to add 2-3 more later on for ppl to find?
That might encourage ppl to explore YAMS outside of spawn town a bit instead of focussing on their own houses all the time.
And also maybe change the [Top Tip] to maybe [YAMS Tip] or just [Tip] because top tip sounds a little bit dull IMO (no offence)

There are more hidden warps and they change all the time not my fault if you dont find them!

Maybe some publicity for shops that are open in the mall? I still dont know what everyone sells and whom to ask that also brings more people to go look at the shop! just an idea

Hello... one of the announcments (new ones) the ones above are very old, says something about the shopping centre.

Now I dont mind placing a few about peoples shops, but I thought it was more fair just to say shopping centre becuase theres so many shops! Maybe a rotation every so oten, but then of course people would actually have to tell me what they want said!
