Chess tournament [Suggestion]

We have a chess board near the robots game and companion cue etc...

 

Cant see why someone cant organise this, it's there to be used whenever.

I like the idea.  Though setting up the chess pieces would be a bit of a challenge to keep in similar groups for the two sides.

 

Here's what I've come up with so far.

 

White pieces:

pawn = sand or birch planks

bishop = ?

knight = stone brick

rook = quartz block

queen = steel block

king = gold block

 

Black pieces:

pawn = gravel or spruce planks

bishop = ?

knight = ?

rook = ?

queen = emerald block

king = lapis lazuli block

 

Any ideas for the other pieces?  Wool might work too if there are enough colors (never really paid attention to it myself )

We already have a chess area set up. The pieces are different coloured wool. One team darker colours the other lighter colours.

Yep! Was bit confused when zhon brought up piece colours, when I mentioned we have one set up, silly zhon! Unless someones stole all the pieces?

Are you guys talking about chess or checkers? You may have a different term for our "chess" and "checkers" because many British and American words are very different but mean same thing. For me, checkers is 2 teams with different colored pieces that all have the same ability.  Chess (like zhon mentioned), has many pieces of the same color, but all have a different function (queen can move anywhere diagonal, forward, backward, sideways to an unlimited amt of spaces), (pawn can move one space forward or take over a piece directly forward-diagonal to it).

There is a proper chest board, to the North I believe? (Correct me if I'm wrong here) I know its to the right of a track, I'm pretty sure its to the North or South. Its just after the first little stop you have before going on to a town. You know, Spawn-littlestop-townstop ? Yeah, the little one. 

 

Think this is right... my mind is all over for directions atm... I walked about ten minutes the wrong way to my staff house last night xD

As I mentioned above there is a chess board (yes chess not checkers) on the blue line near robots and the companion cube. Just come out of the shopping centre and go straight and just before the rail goes upwards theres one on your right ----> you cant miss it, it is black and white with coloured wool pieces as Nikki said. It also has seating. It was made for a chess tournament but it never happened.

Lol it is going to be so confusing to play with only coloured blocks   maye its possible with a  texture pack who shows the pieces, at least with a letter p for pawn,  q for Queen and so on?
