Marketplace shop map [SUGGESTION]

Recommended Posts

The shops in the Marketplace change from time to time, and the addition of new shops isn't always noticed.  It can also take people a full trip around both floors to find the shop they're looking for, or they can miss it altogether.

So what if we set up a simple shop map for both floors, to quickly show people who is selling what and where?  It can be a simple wall with signs on it, saying who's on what floor, or we could do a setup with item frames and each person places a single item that represents their shop in an actual map layout, or any number of other options.

A couple of my ideas:

ShopMap1.png?t=1388444231

ShopMap2.png?t=1388444234

Personally I quite like this idea, yesterday i was looking everywhere trying to find what i need in the mall but soon realised after search both floors it wasn't there.

Interesting idea and its been done before, reason it wasn't done this time is: who updates it? Staff are already doing a lot and shop owners don't always remember to do it if you put them in charge. Likewise if someone leaves/evicted who does it then.

Just seems like another thing someone has to remember to do and will be out of date most times. :(

could it not be made part of the setting up/taking down shop tasks, (kinda like the signs for sandbox) then it should be reasonably up to date.

We could make it the combined responsibility of the shop owners, or just allow it to be updated by whoever finds that the shop has been closed/evicted when they see it.  If they go looking for a desired shop find it's been closed, then they can go back to the map and make an update.  If we use the item frames, there can be a small chest or something to place items that were used to represent the closed shop, or the items could be put in the rent chest or warehouse.  It's only an extra minute or two of time for each person doing an update, and that only when the shops change.

It does run a small risk of trolling/item theft this way, but on the other hand it becomes a convenience that people have to update regularly if they want to keep the map itself - shoppers and shop owners alike - and doesn't rely on one person whose availability changes from week to week.

On the theft subject this could be easily prevented by having glass over the top like a display cabnet
