UPDATE:

 

Mining trip:

 

Today, Saturday the 15th of February 2014 at 4:00pm GMT / 11:00am EST / 10:00am CST / 8:00am PST (See correct time for your country by clicking here).

 

- Please meet at the mining world hub and bring food/tools with you, if you have silk touch shovels/pickaxes to share please bring them.

 

Layout:

 

Haven't seen many people discuss the layout of the park or post drawings etc, so I'm thinking we go with what I've discussed with a few people, that is that we have the ticket entrance --> then a main street with shops ---> leading to a massive lake with an island in the middle (skull island?) --> with a path going round the entire lake ---> this path goes into the different themed areas.

Themes:

 

We need themes, some general ideas: Haunted (for spooky rides), Wild West (runaway minetrain etc), Jungle (rapids), Future/space world? Etc...

 

Please help think of areas.

 

Rides:

 

We need more ideas for rides, this will also help us fit them into themed areas.

I like the idea of the layout, as long as its not like the Disney world one, it was so hard to find things and I ended up giving up. On the themes idea, I've been to Thorpe park a lot, and one of the rides which is easy to recreate is, No way out; If anyone is familiar with this ride, it basically just goes backwards inside of giant building. :P

+1 for thorpe park and X:/ No Way Out... But now it's called X and doesn't travel backwards, but rather forwards. :(

Massive thanks to everyone who took part in the mining trip, we travelled very very far too the following biomes: Mushroom Island (Mycelium), Mesa (Red sand and clay), Ice Plains Spikes (Packed ice) and Mega Taiga (Podzol).

 

So thinking a bit more about themes/rides, with help from madrad too:

 

- Skull island = Aztec themed or maybe pirate themed or even both!

- Mesa (red sand/sand/clay) = Runaway minecart rides.

- Jungle = Rapids

- Forest = Log flume ride

- Ice/snow = Toboggan ride

- Haunted (dirt/mycelium and podzol) = Haunted mansion / duel (shoot arrows from minecarts at things for points)..

 

Id also quite like a space/futurist type theme but need someone who can make modern buildings. :) We have material for planet surface (very big dark open room)... ender stone!

 

Come on people please help come up with themed areas and rides.

will there be a small land for the kiddies?

 

Nearly forgot about kid fun land. Yes of course, bright colours and rides such as the horse carousel? :)

 

We could also do a nether-themed obstacle course.  It can be safe, or it can be a deadly one with item storage chests at the start of it.

UPDATE:
 
Just to make you aware the theme park world was opened this morning, portal at the bottom of spawn.
 
Only been me on so far, I'm going to start by deciding how big this lake should be, going to need help digging it also we need to decide how long main street walk (shops/restaurants and such) will be from ticket booths to the lake.

I've been the only one on today so far, but I've started work on digging and building an Aztec style temple including first bit of redstone (it will be a ride). :D
 
Think I may start doing some more digging, need to work out island properly.
 
By the way if people build things and then realise after halfway through/after finishing it they messed up and it needed to be a certain direction or up/down some blocks etc, let me know as I'll happily help use my tools to move it where needed, we have limited time so don't want people feeling they have to start something all again because messed up on dimensions.

Thanks to those who took part helping me dig out the lag, unfortunately once the efficiency + unbreaking shovels I supplied run out people started to get bored or go. :( If anyone has any efficiency shovels please can we use them? I'm going to take a break now as I've been on for over 9 hours so I've done my fair share and deserve a rest. ;)

 

Below is what we have done so far, nearly half way to digging the main part of the lake out, once lag is digged out will start terraforming it properly and then creating trees and such on the island.

 

We also need to decide how much distance between the water/lake edge to the main entrance/ticket areas, in between this would be shops and food places etc... does 100 blocks sound ok? Or too much? From my and madrads visit to mcmagic  itseems about right, there's was even longer!

 

Is anyone good at building ships? We need a paddle steamer ship as a ferry ship.

Been a few nice buildings done in test world for Main Street just need to find the resources to recreate them in theme world.

I will be on at some point tomorrow to go clay hunting as most of the buildings include coloured clays, anyone is welcome to join me if am just about to head out on a mining trip :)

 

also we now have a pretty cool train station up in theme park world too. We are getting there slowly but surely.

Yep we are getting there but a lot of the things are in the test build world, we need people to start building shops along main street in the theme park world then we can start building paths around the lake to different themed areas.

 

We also need ticket offices/booths and barriers etc, no ones done any designs for this.

 

EDIT: Found clay, go North West following the river NW, eventually the river will make a sharp turn as far NW as the river goes, near roofed forest I've left a red marker with glowstone, go through this forest till you reach swamp river... if you follow this swamp river NW youll find lots of clay, there's also clay going NW of that river but it does come to an end so you'd have to go back up river again. Hope that helps! :D

Ok so lets take a look at what we have done so far and what's next to do in the main theme park world:

 

Done:

 

- We have a scenic railway train station and train, the idea is there will be a scenic railway around the outer edge of the park with 4 stations in each main cardinal direction.

- We have a main plaza with gates where parade floats would come out off.

- We have the starts of a main street.

- We have 1 gift shop and 1 subway food place.

- We have a 2 docks / boathouses.

- We have 2 steam paddler boats.

- We have a massive lake filled with water.

- We have an island with a temple, but isn't completely finished yet as I have been busy with other bits.

 

To do:

 

- Start on ticket offices, booths, bag checking etc.

- Build toilets near main entrance

- Finish the town hall.

- Create a big theatre, conference hall at the plaza.

- Build more shops, theres room for a maximum of 3-5 more depending on sizes.

- Build red path around lake, may be easiest way to do path around lake?

- Decide other paths and how they will break off and go to other areas.

- Decide what themes areas we are having and where.

- Decide rides and build them.

- Build a smaller boat for the two remaining docks.

- Finish of the island, need to start on proper terraforming of the island.

- Start building monorail outside the park to go to car parks and hotels.

- Build car parks + hotels.

- Build float parades.

 

 

There is of course loads more to do but this is a start!

 

Remember I said in a previous post I don't mind moving stuff around with my tools for this build challenge, so as long as people build we can try and fit it in properly latter. :)

do we still need clay?

 

Yes we always need more clay, idea was all areas would have different colour floors.

 

We still need people to make more shops, want to have a go for us?

 

Or even start making some parade floats?

 

I also need a pixel art of some sorts for the cinema/theatre screen.
