darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted May 5, 2014 For a long time now I've had an idea how creating a game around dragons in minecraft and while it seems other Minecraft servers have now had the same idea I decided that I'd still like to give it a go now that it's more technically possible than before with command blocks, other servers use custom made plugins. I have spent the past month building and perfecting this ender dragon game in any spare time I've had on YAMS and today I'm very pleased to announce that "Dragon Dodge - Sky Island" is now as ready as it will ever be to accept players, I can then get feedback from you kind people to then improve. But wait... what is Dragon Dodge you ask? Well the game involves being spawned on a floating island where you must survive the dragons attacking you without any weapons, run and dodge them! The last player standing alive wins the game. If people enjoy this, then I may look into creating another version further down the line: floating castles, airships, a nether ship or island in lava and more.... If you would like to play grab yourself some friends and head down to the bottom of spawn tower where you can find the "games, events and build" room, there is a room in here for the game. Hurdles I encountered when designing this game included: How to design the area, I asked in the forums for builders but only one helped, thanks SteerpikeSister. How to teleport players one at a time into a setup pod, teleporting all together causes the pressure plate to stay on. How to setup a general team/scoreboard and death checks. How to check when there's only one player left in an area or check last player alive and not dead. How to spawn enderdragons in unloaded chunks as command blocks don't allow this. How to set blocks in unloaded chunks as command blocks don't allow this. How to stop the ender dragons flying off and not attacking players. How to reset a world. darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted May 5, 2014 UPDATE 05/05/2014 @ 19:18 GMT: Improved dragon following. Decreased initial jump boost effect time down to 20 seconds. Decreased health regeneration time to 5 minutes. Added resistant effect to players for 5 minutes so the dragons can not kill you, this solves the issue of dying death by dragon instead of falling. Improved death handling, you will hopefully be teleported to the death pod before you fall into the void. Improved winner handling detection. Improved player spread, to fix some of the issues of being stuck in a block. Added ender chests in the portal room in case someone forgets they have items on them. Overall improved player experience. Added ender dragon protection to spawn point in dragon dodge world to prevent them destroying redstone if they spot you. Changed scoreboard name from "Lives" to "Dragon Dodge" Decreased repeater delay on winner teleport pod. Added an extra parameter to last player alive detection system to hopefully help, though can still cause issues if a player disconnects half way through the game. Added brief firework effect to flying ender crystals. Added Huxley Pig the pig who is always dreaming of adventure, exciting professions and encounters. Removed Herobrine. darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted May 8, 2014 UPDATE 08/05/2014: I am constantly updating Dragon Dodge as I find problems, having never made a game like this before please bear with me as I find what works and doesn't work, finding 3-4 players to play (only way to test properly) is hard too so if you're free please let me know! The loser pod which resets your score and teleports you back to spawn has been improved again, the problem before was that after the first player used it the repeaters would become stuck as the chunk unloaded, I've now added a redstone clock to this to refresh the redstone repeaters when you get teleported to the loser pod. Unfortunately this does mean teleporting out of the world is a little slower. Improved last player alive detector, my design uses hoppers for the clock which were sometimes transferring two items instead of 1 making the testfor command always on, most likely was happening when chunks were rapidly unloaded/loaded, improved by only having one item in the hopper and using a separate hopper for the other comparator. Removed Fireworks as they were not noticeable. Added extra flying ender cystals to see if I can keep dragons closer to the island, please feedback. You get healed now when starting the game. darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted May 9, 2014 UPDATE 09/05/2014: Tested with 2-3 players and so far everything seems to be working as there were some issues before but seem to be fixed for now, can not confirm with 4 players as need players to come on and help me test. Middle pressure plate in tripwire spawn area now activates, before only the trip wires and outer pressure plates activated the teleport commands. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

changingtuna88 168 Report post Posted May 17, 2014 Don't know if this is something you can fix this, but after someone pushes the button and the others are sent to the waiting for tp area, it takes a really long time for the tp to happen, could just be redstone being buggy tho. darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted May 18, 2014 Which buton? Do you mean it takes a long time to get to the world? Or long time to be teleported down from trip wire spawn box into sign room? Or that last button there that sends you to the island? If you mean the trip wire/pressure plates are slow to teleport you down then that's normal as there's a long delay to stop people being put into a setup pod at same time and getting stuck. darrenstraight 2,330 Report post Posted March 14, 2015 UPDATE 14/03/2015: Out of chance our new player Sgt_McMin3r went into the dragon dodge the other day with changingtuna88, while the intention wasn't to go in there, it was a good think they did (thanks haha) as I have now found out that dragon dodge has been broken since we moved over to Minecraft 1.8. You'll be pleased to know however that I have now fixed it! Fixed command blocks, changing setblock ID's from numbers to text, this is a Minecraft 1.8 change. Pushed Huxley Pig back into his cave.
