{"id":1220,"date":"2007-05-05T12:37:18","date_gmt":"2007-05-05T11:37:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.darrenstraight.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/05\/microsoft-and-yahoo-once-again-in-discussions-for-merger\/"},"modified":"2007-05-05T12:44:11","modified_gmt":"2007-05-05T11:44:11","slug":"microsoft-and-yahoo-once-again-in-discussions-for-merger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.darrenstraight.com\/blog\/2007\/05\/05\/microsoft-and-yahoo-once-again-in-discussions-for-merger\/","title":{"rendered":"Microsoft and Yahoo once again in Discussions for Merger!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Both the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypost.com\/seven\/05042007\/business\/bills_hard_drive_business_peter_lauria_and_zachery_kouwe.htm\">New York Post<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB117827827757492168.html\">Wall Street Journal<\/a> are reporting that sources say Microsoft and Yahoo were <strike>are<\/strike> talking again about how they might merge or cooperate.<\/p>\n<p>To quote from the The New York Post it\u00a0says:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Recent talks between <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/quotes\/main.html?type=djn&amp;symbol=msft\" onmouseout=\"window.status=('');return true\" onmouseover=\"window.status=('   Quotes &#038; Research for MSFT');return true\" class=\"times rolloverQuote\">Microsoft<\/a> Corp. and <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/quotes\/main.html?type=djn&amp;symbol=yhoo\" onmouseout=\"window.status=('');return true\" onmouseover=\"window.status=('   Quotes &#038; Research for YHOO');return true\" class=\"times rolloverQuote\">Yahoo<\/a> Inc. over how to band together betray increasing unrest at Microsoft over how to compete with <a href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/quotes\/main.html?type=djn&amp;symbol=goog\" onmouseout=\"window.status=('');return true\" onmouseover=\"window.status=('   Quotes &#038; Research for GOOG');return true\" class=\"times rolloverQuote\">Google<\/a> Inc. and get in step with the booming online-advertising market.<\/p>\n<p class=\"times\">Microsoft and Yahoo discussed a possible merger or other matchup that would pair their respective strengths, say people familiar with the situation. The merger discussions are no longer active, these people say, but that doesn&#8217;t preclude the two companies from some other form of cooperation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"times\">If merger talks are revived, whether Microsoft and Yahoo could reach an agreement remains as much of a question as it did a year ago, when similar talks ended inconclusively. Microsoft has always steered clear of large acquisitions. Yahoo has about 11,700 employees and earlier this week had a market value of about $38 billion. Yahoo shares surged $2.80, or 9.9%, to $30.98 in 4 p.m. Nasdaq Stock Market composite trading on news of the talks, raising the company&#8217;s market value to around $42 billion Friday.
