Rather than test all 6,300 of Britain’s classified roads, a shortlist was drawn up by polling readers of Auto Express magazine.

The top ten were then assessed by the Motor Industry Research Association (MIRA) using a car fitted with sophisticated sensors to measure speed and lateral acceleration. Driving the roads at a constant 30mph gave a measurement in kiloNewton seconds (kNs) revealing that in tighter corners drivers were subjected to a force approaching one G, similar to those on a rollercoaster or racetrack.

Unsurprisingly, almost all the roads are in hilly areas of the country; the top three are found in Wiltshire, Cumbria and the Cheshire Peak District but the sixth placed A157 runs through Lincolnshire, a mostly flat county.

Tracey Hyem of Continental Tyres said: “At 30mph in an average family hatchback, some British roads are so bendy they exert the kind of forces you would expect on a racetrack.”

The Top Ten are:

• B3081- Cann Common to Tollard Royal, Dorset/Wiltshire
• A686 – Penrith to Melmerby, Cumbria
• A537 – Macclesfield to Buxton, Cheshire/Derbyshire
• A466 – Monmouth and Staunton, Monmouth
• A4061 – Pricetown and Treorchy, Rhondda, Wales
• A157 – Louth to Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire
• B2130 – Godalming to Cranleigh, Surrey
• B6270 – Keld and Reeth, North Yorkshire
• A39 – Bridgwater to Minehead, Somerset
• B797 – Mennock to Warnlockhead, Dumfries and Galloway

Source: Msn Cars

Here’s an article from Msn which tell’s you Britan’s top 10 bendiest/twisted roads!
