That’s the basic idea behind Windows Live. So the things you care about your friends, the latest information, your e-mails, powerful search, your PC files, everything come together in one place.

The Windows Live Platform puts a deeper level of control into developers’ hands by offering access to the core services and data through open, easily accessible APIs. Now you can build applications and mashups that combine your innovation with the power of Windows Live services and social relationships while plugging into a business model that will help you share in the growing revenue base of advertising and subscription services.

The Windows Live Developer Center on MSDN is your one stop shop for the Windows Live Platform, including information on getting started with Windows Live services, latest documentation and APIs, access to community areas and relevant blogs, and announcements of future releases and innovations.

The Principles of the Windows Live Platform
Simply put, our goal is to open Windows Live services to create shared opportunity for developers and businesses. As such, we endeavor to lower the barrier of entry to allow the greatest number of developers to participate. Below are the basic principles of the Windows Live Platform:

Make it easy for the developer community to integrate with Windows Live and make money.

Any platform, any browser, any language.

Fully supported mobile devices.

Consistent API set across all Windows Live services.

Simple HTTP-based APIs.

Straightforward licensing and permissive terms of use.

Trustworthy ecosystem.

Users are in control of their data.

MSN Services and Windows Live Services
Windows Live will consolidate the services and applications that to date have been under the “MSN” banner. For current releases, these services will maintain the “MSN” branding. However, going forward you will see future releases of services such as Search, Messenger, Spaces, and Virtual Earth rolled into the Windows Live family. For example, on this developer center, you will access SDKs and other information under the “MSN” banner. For developers, the change should be no more than a naming transition. In short, continue to develop to all the same APIs you have to date and that are documented here.

Will the application I built on an MSN service work with the same Windows Live service?

Yes. Each MSN service or application that transitions to a Windows Live service or application is simply a version change. The name change will not impact compatibility beyond normal versioning issues as documented with each release.

Windows Live Developer Center

Just heard about a Windows Live Developer Center through the MSND Biweekly Newsletter: Welcome to the Windows Live Developer Center Your online world gets better when everything works simply and effortlessly together.
