{"id":716,"date":"2006-06-12T22:48:40","date_gmt":"2006-06-12T21:48:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.darrenstraight.com\/blog\/2006\/06\/12\/my-thoughts-on-the-farecast-private-beta-so-far\/"},"modified":"2006-06-12T23:21:27","modified_gmt":"2006-06-12T22:21:27","slug":"my-thoughts-on-the-farecast-private-beta-so-far","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.darrenstraight.com\/blog\/2006\/06\/12\/my-thoughts-on-the-farecast-private-beta-so-far\/","title":{"rendered":"My thoughts on the Farecast Private Beta so far!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ok so I&#8217;ve been on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.farecast.com\/\">Farecast<\/a> Private Beta, an airline\u00a0fare prediction tool,\u00a0for less than a week now thanks to <a href=\"http:\/\/upgradetravel.blogspot.com\/2006\/06\/want-to-test-drive-farecast.html#links\">Mark<\/a> and I kind of like what I&#8217;ve seen so far, but to be honest there&#8217;s still quite a lot of limitations.<\/p>\n<p>Now I know this is a very early private beta (invite only) but I think they really need to start focusing on getting some other major cities from other places in the world added, London, Paris, and Rome etc.<\/p>\n<p>Once they have done that then I can start some real beta testing that isn&#8217;t restricted to cities I haven&#8217;t flown to or from before!<\/p>\n<p>Current limitations of the Farecast Private Beta include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Only Seattle and Boston Searchable<\/strong>\u00a0Farecast plans to add more markets and will eventually cover all major markets in the US and around the globe, something that many of us will be wating to see.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Only Roundtrip Airfare Available<\/strong>\u00a0Farecast plans to add one-way and multi-city shopping capabilities in the futrure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Not All of the Lowest Prices<\/strong> Most of these issues should be resolved soon but sometimes during the beta, you may find that\u00a0Farecast is\u00a0missing an itinerary or a price that you found on an airline site or even a competitor site that was low and didnt appear on Farecast, things like this take time but will eventually improve.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Improvement Needed on Links to Airline Booking<\/strong> During this beta, Farecast is investing heavily in technology to improve the transition from Farecast to the airline website but like a lot of the other limitacions with this beta, it&#8217;s better that they slowly implement it than implement everything in one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Browser Incompatibilities<\/strong> \u00e2\u20ac\u201c\u00a0Farecast plans to support more browsers eventually but for the time being, Farecast is optimized for use only with certain browsers. For windows, they are: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/firefox\/\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> (1.5 or higher) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/windows\/ie\/default.mspx\" target=\"_blank\">Internet Explorer<\/a> (5.5 or higher) and for\u00a0Mac users,\u00a0they are\u00a0recommending using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mozilla.com\/firefox\/\" target=\"_blank\">Firefox<\/a> (1.5 or higher).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Site performance issues,<\/strong> such as site outages, server busy errors, and slow search times.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ohh and by the way before I forget, I do have Farecast Private Beta Invites, so if you would like a Farecast Private Beta Invite just\u00a0leave me a comment asking for one and I&#8217;ll send you one.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ok so I&#8217;ve been on the Farecast Private Beta, an airline\u00a0fare prediction tool,\u00a0for less than a week now thanks to Mark and I kind of like what I&#8217;ve seen so far, but to be honest there&#8217;s still quite a lot of limitations.
