GoogleCommunity.com website down!

Update 2: GoogleCommunity.com is now back online!

Update: website is online at temporary location googleboard.com.

Well as you might know I’m one of the administrators at Google Community (http://www.googlecommunity.com/) which is a discussion forum for everything related to Google and more.

Anyway today at around 16:16 a member and also friend of mine from Google Community called Laurent contacted me on msn saying the following:

– Hey
– just want to say.. look at http://www.googlecommunity.com/
http://www.googlecommunity.com/ This page is parked free, courtesy of GoDaddy.com

But unfortunately at that time I was very busy and only was only quickly checking my emails, but I did has he said I went to Google Community in a new browser window but what could I say the page worked fine for me, so I told him that and that I had to go and well thought nothing else of it as I kept on checking Google Community and it worked fine.

That was until I got an email time dated at 17:18 from Mondine a Moderator at Google Community, which said:

GoogleCommunity: Coming Soon?
Uhhh, is whatever is going on something that was supposed to happen?

I replied to him at 17:56 because by that time I too had the problem of not being able to get on GC and had also found another way in which I believe I had used in the past before for a similar reason, anyway here’s what I sent him:

I really have no idea, some other members reported this to me not long ago but it worked for me!

But as your a mod heres a back way in!

(ip address url removed)

Have fun! 😀

He then replied back to me at 18:10 with the following:

Not much fun to be had there.Trying to log in just sends me back to the GoDaddy parked page.
And clicking any forum or post results in:

Not Found

The requested URL /home/google/public_html/viewforum.php was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Are you actually doing something that’s caused this, or did someone kick the plug out?

I of course don’t have access to anything to do with the Domain name or Hosting with Google Community as Elliot the Administrator deals with this side of things, so I replied to Mondine with the following:

I didn’t do nothing I don’t even have access to domains!  🙁

After all this I started to recieve more people asking me questions and the answe was always normally “I don’t know I have no idea!” or “I suspect they are trying their hardest to fix it!” as that was all about I could say, anyway GC is still down now and even this url http://www.googleboard.com/ which used to go to GC dosent work anymore, if you’r a moderator at Google Community you can still use Google Community IP Adress URL which I have if you contact me as I dont want it getting loaded but please be warned it’s not fully functional either and only the frontpage loads along with some other pages!

So what can I say apart from that I’m really sorry for all of you who cant get on, though not so sorry for all of you who have been bugging me all day as to why it doesn’t work and telling me that you cant live without GC because it’s all you have well what can I say for goodness sake get a life it’s an internet forum not real life!

Anyway hopefully Elliot will come on soon and get in contact with either the hosting company or GoDaddy.

Night Night!

Ah, well, it wasn’t just me, then.
Naturally, I don’t believe a word of it. I simply assume that you’ve finally revealed your position as leader of a Microsoft guerilla sleeper-cell, hatching yet another Evil Plot at the behest of Chairman Bill.
Can’t say that I didn’t see it coming.

I saw one flicker of life within the last hour, when I was informed of a PM arriving at GC, but of course I can’t view it, as the link reacquaints me with our new best friends at GoDaddy.

On the bright side, this gives me valuable time to proceed with equally interesting pursuits, such as watching Reality TV, and napping.
And I suppose there’s always that MSDiscussion forum, made tolerable by the quality of the marvelous moderating team.

Additionally, Elliot has put up an explanation, on his blog:
http://www.intelliot.com/blog/archives/2006/01/05/google-community-temporarily-offline/

“Alright, I just got off a 21:13 minute phone call with GoDaddy support. The domain was accidentally charged back, and thus the receipt was canceled and the domain was removed from my account. This was a mistake. I decided to pay the $50 chargeback fee and the $30 domain recovery fee to ensure that the domain is returned as soon as possible. I really hope this works.

It will take up to 2 days for the domain to be returned to my account (this Saturday/Sunday). After that, I may have to set the nameservers back to mine. ”

Not great news, but at least it’s an explanation.

Yep Elliot eventually got my message on Aim and GTalk glad to see he found out the problem now I get to finally take myself a nice break from my administration job at GC and enjoy how life should be, that is trouble free from internet trolls! 😀

One can think of such a thing can happening because of an such charge back, but its unacceptable if GoDaddy takes this much time in pushing it back to Elliot’s account. It should have been a matter of hours if not minutes.

Exactly my thought, GoDaddy seems to be absolutely useless!
