UrlyArt – Photo Mosaic Images of Website Screenshots

UrlyArt is another one of them sites like the Million Dollar Homepage that I think you are going to start to love very soon, it started up today, and I’ve just bought a space on it so let’s see how much traffic it brings!

But for now as your probably wondering what the heck I’m on about, read the infomation below:

Our current work of UrlyArt is filling up. Add your website today!
Each fascinating UrlyArt photo mosaic includes hundreds of screenshots and links for websites all over the world… and you can drive traffic and increase pagerank when you add your website to the current one and become an UrlyArt Patron.

The cost to sponsor a single tile in one of our works of UrlyArt starts at only $5, takes only about 2 minutes of your time, and we’ll even prepare your tile artwork by taking the screenshot and shrinking it to the right size. The earlier you add a tile, the more it will be seen and clicked: we display progressive versions of each work of UrlyArt as it fills up. Once filled, the piece is permanently displayed in our UrlyArt Gallery.

Win a new iPod just for looking!
Come look at our current work of UrlyArt in progress each day, and squint your eyes hard, because if you’re the first to guess what or who is the subject of the photo, you’ll win a new iPod!

frequently asked questions about UrlyArt:

UrlyArt. What kind of a name is that, and how do you pronounce it?
UrlyArt is our made-up name for a photo mosaic made of tiny screenshots of websites. Each website has a link to its own URL (Uniform Resource Locator), also known as a “website address.” So, UrlyArt is artwork made up of URLs. It’s pronounced like “early art,” but has nothing at all to do with caveman paintings.

What is an UrlyArt Patron?
An UrlyArt Patron is someone who sponsors a tile by adding a website screenshot to one of our works of UrlyArt. It’s a way of showing support for our site and artwork, while receiving recognition and clicks from viewers of our site.

Why should I sponsor a work of UrlyArt by buying a tile?
If you’ve got a website or a blog you’d like to promote, sponsoring one or more UrlyArt tiles is a quick, simple, and economical way to get both clickthrus and a quality, permanent link to your URL. As one of our “current” works of UrlyArt progressively fills in, visitors to our site try to be the first to guess the emerging subject matter and win a new iPod. This leads to heavy repeat traffic, with lots of eyeballs on our UrlyArt and your tile(s). Once each of our current pieces is completed, it’s moved into a permanent spot in our Gallery, where your screenshot and link will live for eternity on that work of UrlyArt. As the popularity, traffic, and PageRank of UrlyArt.com grows, you can share in that attention. It’s a lot of bang for your five bucks.

Can I sponsor more than one tile on a picture?
Yes. Currently, we limit each order to 10 URLs, each of which can be repeated up to 20 times per picture. Also, we have a global domain limit of 100 tiles per picture, so one website doesn’t dominate a work of UrlyArt.

If I sponsor a tile, how quickly will it show up on the current work of UrlyArt?
We update our current work of UrlyArt once or twice each business day, picking up all the orders placed since the last version was created, and adding them to the piece. If you haven’t seen your tile added within 2 business days, please complain like hell.

How long does it take you to complete your current work of UrlyArt?
It depends on how fast the tile sponsorship orders come through. If they start coming too fast, we’ll slow things down by raising the price. And vice-versa.

Do you censor the content of your sponsors?
Yes. We’d like to keep this site free of “adult” content, like pornographic, hateful, or illegal content, so we reserve the right to refuse any sponsorship order. If this happens to you, please note that we’ll promptly refund your money. It looks like some of your works of UrlyArt weren’t sponsored by websites, but instead have a theme. What’s up with that?

We like to experiment with themes, and so we regularly create works of UrlyArt that appeal to us in some way. For example, that’s what we’ve done with our Cheney Hunting, Flickr Wow, and Digg Popular pieces, and there will be many more in the future. If you have ideas for interesting themes, please let us know.

What’s the story behind UrlyArt?
The UrlyArt idea was conceived over a long Mexican lunch on February 9, 2006 by Ron Hornbaker and Joe Sparks, a couple of the guys behind Humankind Systems, BookCrossing.com and Propsmart.com. It sounded like a fun project to them, so they convinced co-workers Matt Brass and Lee Curbow to help, and they all spent the next 11 days building the site and creating some early UrlyArt. The site was quietly launched on February 20, 2006.
