The Queen’s (Queen Elizabeth II) 80th birthday

So it was the Queen’s (Queen Elizabeth II) 80th birthday today, but unfortunately I was at work nearly all day so I have only just came round to blogging about it and seeing what happened today, but know I would like to know what everybody else thought about the celebrations today, and also did anybody go to any of them, do you have any photos?

And I also would like to ask what are everybody’s opinions on the Queen (Queen Elizabeth II) and the British Monarchy.

Let me know, thanks!

Well, as you probably know, the Queen is still our official Head of State here in Canada.
I think most people think of this state of affairs as a quaint anachronism, but it’s one of the things that make us unique in North America, and not likely to change in the near future.
And, after all, who could dislike Queen Elizabeth? That would be like hating kittens. Whether the Monarchy has staying power into the next generation or two remains to be seen.
What’s quite ironic is that the “Queen’s Representative” in Canada, the Governer General, has morphed into an entirely differnt type of figurehead.
They are often ex-journalists, left-leaning, and decidedly unregal.
It’s the rather large globe-trotting budgets of these government-appointees that most object to, when the subject of the Monarchy in Canada comes up.
But the Queen? God bless ‘er. Long may she reign.
