First Internerd of the Month at The Beta Tester

The Other Day on my Birthday I was contated by Joel Monegro from a new Beta Tester Blog asking me if I could help out with the reviews on the site, now normally I would have said yes as I’m always up for helping out new sites but unfortunelty this time I had to say no as I’m quite busy with all my exams coming up.

After that he contacted me asking me if I would like to be awarded the title of “Internerd of the Month” due to my active blog posts, and achievements in beta testing, kind of cool I thought to myself but not suprising as I was the only one who had linked to their site in a previos post titled Internerd of The Month, kind of weird don’t you think, but that’s nothing compared to what is even weirder, that being that all the people who commented In that post, posted around the same time, coincidence? I think not, I expect that they are all the same person, maybe Joel or one of them blog starter sites, just trying to make the place look busy.

Now I’m not sure if he will admit it, but I can forgive him if he does! 😉

So yeah anyway Joel has now posted a post on the BT (Beta Tester) telling everybody that the article about me is now up, but I’ve just checked it out and I really think it’s lacking in what could be a very good article about what I do and how I’ve came to where I am now, let me explain:

First of all the structure of the article needs improving considerable as there’s quite a lot of the text that isn’t spaced out properly and also a few broken links, those of which link to me, by falling to fix these links they are making themselves look like they just want the content and don’t care about linking back, harsh I know, but if it wasn’t for Joel Contacting me prior to posting this article asking for permission, I would have thought exactly this.

Secondly it would be better if they done less quoting and started doing more investigation into that current Interned of the Month in question, that way they would have the information needed to reconstruct their own article with very little quotes thus being more original.

And thirdly they need to think about what’s going to happen next month, will the current Internerd of the Month page they have on me be overwritten by the next months Internerd of the Month or will it be archived.

I’m guessing it will be overwritten because it’s not actually a blog post which has the date in the URL but instead a blog page which has no assigned date or category to it.

So knowing this would it not be of best interest for both BT and the selected Internerd of the Month to have a separate post each month containing everything about that new Internerd instead of telling them to click the top link to a page that will eventually change.

Reasons for doing this include:

  • Easier for people to link to a permalink post than a page because it will always display that same Interned and won’t be overwritten.
  • Improvement on back linking for both parties, because for example people won’t link from their blogs to an article page that will likely change content each month to something that won’t be what they wanted to link to, they need something that will be there forever!
  • People like to view archives from time to time.
  • More page views as each time you will be doubling the Internerd of the Month content by keeping archives.

So yeah basically what I’m saying is that they need to have each Internerd of the Month posted as a separate post like the current one they have but with the full article instead of just saying click the above link to read the full article and then make that top link update each month to the new Interned of the Month, by doing this they still keep people informed of the newsest Interned and also let people view the old Interneds.

They could also make that top link, link up to an archive of Internerds.

And that’s my Beta Testing done on the Internerd of the Month Article at BT (Beta Testing)

I can now only hope that my opinions will be of much use to Joel and that he will make use of them while he still has a chance, yes even what I said about the comments, and who knows maybe he might even write out my article again with more original content.

Good luck Joel, contact me if you like, I’ll be more available soon!

And hey the same applies to everybody else, good luck with what you’re doing, if you need my help, just ask!

I guess he needed more help.
Just went to have a look at the article, and saw “This user has elected to delete their account and the content is no longer available”.

Oh well. It’s tough out there. You have to be willing to stand a little adversity.
