Nineteen of 24 people have had their UK assets frozen

Following yesterdays breaking news of the Arrests of 24 people under the Terrorism Act who were found to be in connection with an alleged plot to blow transatlantic flights out of the sky from the UK to the US.

Nineteen of those arrested have had their assets frozen under powers granted by the United Nations to tackle the financing of terrorism in the wake of the September 11 2001 attacks. Chancellor Gordon Brown ordered the Bank of England to freeze the suspects’ assets after meetings with police and security services. The oldest of the named suspects is 35 and the youngest 17.

The Bank of England named the suspects as: Abdula Ahmed Ali, 25, Walthamstow, London; Cossor Ali, 23, Walthamstow, London; Shazad Khuram Ali, 27, High Wycombe, Bucks; Nabeel Hussain, 26, Chingford, London; Tanvir Hussain, 25, Leyton, London; Umair Hussain, 24, Tower Hamlets, London; Umar Islam, 28, High Wycombe, Bucks; Waseem Kayani, 29, High Wycombe, Bucks; Assan Abdullah Khan, 21, Walthamstow, London; Waheed Arafat Khan, 25, Walthamstow, London; Osman Adam Khatib, 19, Walthamstow, London; Abdul Muneem Patel, 17, Hackney, London; Tayib Rauf, 22, Birmingham; Muhammed Usman Saddique, 24, Walthamstow, London; Assad Sarwar, 26, High Wycombe, Bucks; Ibrahim Savant, 25, Walthamstow, London; Amin Asmin Tariq, 23, Walthamstow, London; Shamin Mohammed Uddin, 35, Stoke Newington, London; Waheed Zaman, 22, Walthamstow, London.
