Well my Minecraft Server “Yet Another Minecraft Server” a.k.a. YAMS only went public 4 days ago, after I did quite a lot of back work before hand on setting up a decent spawn base and well the structure builds I am seeing coming from people are already pretty good (even great) and everyone’s been really friendly so far, well except “i_am_sex”, he was just a troll.
Here’s a list of some of the users we have had so far:
- I_am_sex (troll)
- And some others….
Thanks to everyone for coming on and I hope you all continue to stay and build more wonderful things.
Here’s some cartograph (aerial imagery) I have taken – right click and save target as:
I’m not going to post any screenshots this time though, they don’t do justice. Better to see in person! Though I might have a look into creating a google maps type cartograph where we can see where everyone is in real time. Problem is though I don’t want to bog things down to much, the ping is pretty good at the moment so we shall see…
For those not in the know, here’s the ip again:
Server IP = 126.96.36.199:31665
Edit 05/04/2011: My public UK Minecraft multiplayer server has improved a lot since these cartographs from the 29/01/2011, please check out theses panoramic stitches below to see what some of the city looks like now. (click to enlarge). Also please check out the YAMS Forums (http://www.darrenstraight.com/minecraft) to see the great community we have now, were the number 1 rule is be a part of the community. The ip is still the same as above: 188.8.131.52:31665 I hope to see you in game!
Calling all minecrafterians looking for public minecraft servers… My London based multiplayer Minecraft server titled “Yet Another Minecraft Server” a.k.a. YAMS is now public, so no more hiding as it’s free for anyone to join. There is currently no whitelist however due to increased popularity whitelist is sometimes on, in which case please visit the forums to get yourself whitelisted. I’m putting a lot of trust in you all here by making this a public minecraft server, so please don’t let me down. At the first sign of madness that is bad behaviour, there shall jailings and bans! so Keep an eye out for those bad boys and girls who just want to cause damage.
YAMS Server ip: 184.108.40.206:31665
Update 26/01/2011: I have set us up a farley decent size base, which took me quite a while but I want you lot to expand from there, use your imagination, I’ve provided you with the foundations. So Enjoy!
Note: These images are from the old world, see below for images of the new world.

Update 18/03/2012: It’s been a month now since we have been in the new world, some call it YAMS v2 more than a year latter after the orginal first map of YAMS. Here’s some nice pictures of spawn.
Avril Lavigne fans out there I’m sure you’ve seen it already but if not watch now!
Some of the reaction from in the comments section on http://www.avrillavigne.com/uk/news/watch-avrils-what-hell-video-right-now
- Tue, 2011-01-25 11:28 — Melaniez. Why do that? Okay when avril was 16, just as she realesed let go, she said she would NEVER prance around in her knickers for money, ten year later and what’s she doing? And if avril is so sucessful why does she need to promote other people’s sh*t anyway? All her fans will know about Abbey Dawn and her perfumes so why put the obviously in a music video? A MUSIC video is suppose to be for the MUSIC, I think the name give that away a bit. Not an ADVERT, this is the thing you use for ADVERTISING. Just like farmeronions and Cat2 said; grow your balls back. If the rest of the album is like this I might pull my hair out, what happened to you? As soon as you hit your 20′s I swear you lost something that was there before. Something that your fans loved you for. Sorry Man, but this isn’t what I expected.
- Tue, 2011-01-25 08:46 — Piscesgirl10. This is an absolutely fantastic music video – I enjoyed every ssecond of it and I’m extremely excited for the new album to come out. As much as there was product put in there by Sony, I highly doubt that was of Avril’s making – but then and again – why not? Avril created it because she likes to wear them, so why not show off? Whatever we all think – I think the music video was very funny and a success! Rock on Avril! Can’t wait for your new album.
- Mon, 2011-01-24 17:06 — barnzey901. I do agree very catchy and great song however, product placement is done by many labels in videos and is accepted because it is worked in – not placed center frame, its usually subtle this was pretty ridiculous it seemed like more of an advert for perfume and sony as well as the abbey dawn clothing line – and i know its not avril lavigne personally doing these things and god knows shes only doing this for the money (anyone want to argue this think about it wouldnt the obvious placements been refused and more content actually based on the video be placed in that time?) looking fwd to the album though just not the sell out videos.
- Mon, 2011-01-24 12:26 — TheBestDamnPaige. I do hate it how people are going so over the top with the promotes!! You will never have as big a sucess as Avril. I think that people need to think about this, i would have done the same tbh xxxx
As you can see theres quite a bit of talk in regards of the marketing of various products throughout the music video, I certainly noticed quite a few of them when I watched it, actually now I’ve just watched it again I see all the products, the first time I was focusing on the music but now I’ve noticed the products being advertised they just stick out too much. Wouldn’t mind a couple or so but I really think the video should be about the music not the products. But I guess with piracy and such its another way to make money. But should it always be about the money?
Well it’s been a long time coming but it’s time to say goodbye as I have now removed my blog tagline of “Windows Live Butterfly Heaven!” and replaced it with “ICT Systems Manager by Day, Blogger by Night.” I’m not sure if I shall be keeping the new one, but the Microsoft Windows Live Butterfly program closed in June/July 2009 and well I was trying to keep hold of that last little bit of nostalgic, but times move and it was time that my tagline did so too… Sad Day!
The Windows Live Butterfly awards program (formerly the MSN Butterfly program) was a program whose members were given the benefit of new Microsoft software to test before the beta releases went public and they were in direct contact with the program managers for Windows Live products.
Microsoft had initiated the Windows Live Butterfly program in order to recognize the contributions made by exemplary beta testers. Prospective ‘butterflies’ were selected by the Windows Live product team and were nominated for a term of one year, after which they could be renominated.
The Windows Live Butterfly program was closed in June 2009.
Remember Samsung Project Space Planes back in September? Which had the idea of launching a balloon to space where there it would release lots of paper planes with Samsung SD memory cards (with your messages). If not quickly see video below!
Well they have finally managed to do that, amidst awful weather, from a place called Wolfsburg in Germany!
The balloon, filled with helium gas and carrying a load of paper planes, took 2.6 hours to rise to 37,339 metres (that’s at the edge of space!), where it burst and took only 40 minutes to fall back to earth. It landed in a forest just south east of Berlin, where our team had to use a very long pole to retrieve the payload from the top of a tree.
The hand-crafted paper planes with their precious cargo of Samsung SD memory cards were released at around 36,3500 metres and could land anywhere!
Now if anyone finds a plane and memory card, they would like you to contact them at www.projectspaceplanes.com/ask and they will try to put you in touch with the person who uploaded their piece of data onto that memory card.
They have already tested the few cards that got tangled in the net and therefore weren’t released, and they all work perfectly!
See the action in the video below.
SoundCloud, the audio platform that enables everybody to upload, record, promote and share the sounds they create across the web, has today announced it is to extend its operations into North America with the opening of a presence in San Francisco and several planned new hires in the city within the coming months.
The fast-growing company was launched in Berlin in 2008 and its headquarters remain in the German capital. With an additional office already in the Shoreditch area of London, home to many of Europe’s leading Internet start-ups, adding Silicon Valley as an operational base will promote further consolidation as well as growth in the key US market.
Establishing a physical presence in the technological heart of the US will allow SoundCloud to engage with other technology companies interested in using and integrating with its open API. These integrations have already resulted in the development of more than 120 apps available in the app gallery, ranging from Korg emulators for iPad to those allowing users to plug instruments into smartphones and directly uploading their creations to SoundCloud. It is expected that the number of apps on offer will increase substantially as a result of US expansion.
SoundCloud’s rapidly increasing user base in the US has so far been entirely organic. Opening a US presence will allow SoundCloud to better serve its American users and more easily focus on continuing its growth and development there.
Alexander Ljung, founder and CEO, SoundCloud, said: “Our move to San Francisco is reminiscent of when my co-founder, Eric Wahlforss and I first launched SoundCloud. Then it was the two of us working out of a cafe in the Mitte district of Berlin and sleeping on friends’ floors. We still very much maintain that start-up ethos and are starting our US venture based out of The Summit cafe.”
SoundCloud confirmed earlier this month it had received funding from two venture firms, Union Square Ventures and Index Ventures, with expansion into the US highlighted as a key component of its post investment strategy. Separately, Index Ventures has also recently announced a move into Silicon Valley.
SoundCloud currently has 2.8 million registered users and has recently introduced free apps for iPhone, Android and Mac OS, which so far have had more than 500k downloads.

I shall be showing you CraftArtist Gold. Click The Images to Enlarge. CraftArtist loads up quite nice and simple and the first time you load it up, it will check for updates, which I recommend you do, believe an update fixed a bug I was having where an embedded web page was not showing on the digital content screen. Anyhow you can manually update at any time.
From the main start up splash screen you have many options which you can choose from, blank templates, pre-made templates, tutorials, more downloadable content and more. I choose “Choose a Template”.
On the next screen I was asked what template I would like to start of with, there was so many different types of projects I could choose from, It was certainly overwhelming, but in a good way as they all seemed very high quality.
And I could even filter by date and type for example, Greeting Cards for Valentines Day.
Or scrapbooks and hover over each one to get a little preview
I decided to go with a Valentines Day one, You’ll notice it has a default image in it of a couple.
No problem, I can ungroup and and uncrop all the items and remove the image
And add my own and crop and regroup, in terms of cropping I mean using a shape, for example the heart, and the photo and crop out everything from the photo except a heart shape, took me a while to figure out how to do, you have to send the image to the back of the heart and then select photo + heart and the crop function, but once I did it once it was easy.
You can also change the background by importing more from the Digikits Browser, which is quite a good content library with lots of resources.
And it’s not just backgrounds, there’s also embellishments (a little bit like clip art) and frames and well loads more. All of this is filterable by type and category which is great, saves be digging around to much for that perfect piece of art, all of them very good quality.
On a gift card for example, same applies to scrapbooks, you can also of course edit the inside of the card/book by adding/editing the pages. Just like the front cover you can pretty much do anything you like with it, I quite like the “Insert Sentiment” and even that’s editable, there’s nothing like words from the heart so not being able to edit it to your own words would be a downfall, but it’s not so thumbs up!
Overall CraftArtist is a great product, and theres a lot more behing the scences than I can show you, plus it’s better for you to explore than me show you. I will certainly be recommending it and I truly believe that if you enjoy making cards and such then you will enjoy this, that goes for both those who like to make them but don’t always like the hassle of doing it or for those who would like to but find it to hard, it also applies to those who are professionals and like making such things by good old hand. Doing it digital can be as simple or as complcated as you like with little or loads of effort depending on how creative you want to be and its certainly fun.
If anyone gets it please post your crafting results here, would love to see.
